Abstract

An extreme manifestation of marine mucilage in the Sea of Marmara in the spring-summer of 2021 is described. Based on satellite data, an analysis of similar manifestations in the previous decade has been carried out. It is shown that the current situation is unique, both in terms of the coverage of the water area and the duration of the phenomenon. The need for comprehensive research is noted in order to understand the causes of the occurrence of marine mucilage and the consequences of its impact on the marine ecosystem and economic activities in coastal waters.
